abstract = "In this work, we present the results of an algorithms for oceanic
target detection using the methodologies describes by Vachon et al
(1997), Eldhuset (1996), Zaart et al (1999) and one methodologies
developed by us using a threshold technique in one RADARSAT image,
ScanSAR Wide mode, of an area in the Southwestern South Alantic.
Hydrographic and meteorological in situ data collected by some of
detected ships, satellite data and model results were also used in
the analysis. The main focus of this work has been a multinational
naval training operation in region. The position and direction of
navigation of some of the detected ships during the image
acquisition time were available for checking the accuracy of the
tested algorithms.",
